Friendship

John 15:15 "No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you." RSV

"What a Friend we have in Jesus"... I love that Old hymn. It captures my attention every time I hear it. "All our sins and griefs to bear"... As a Christian I have often thought about the sins Jesus bore for me but until just recently I had never given much thought to Jesus bearing my grief. Since He is my friend, He does carry my grief, because friends do just that. You see grief is an interesting word that includes sorrow, heartache, anxiety, and unhappiness. My friends carry much grief from me. Whenever I am sad or upset about something, boy, do they hear me sputter. I can rattle off all my complaints and all my frustrations at them so fast they don't know what happened. Most of the time they just smile and take it all in. They bear it. They give me a hug, pray for me and in a small, but yet not so small, way everything is better.

My daughter does that with me. I love walking to school with her because that is when she talks. One day she started complaining about some injustice she felt she had experienced in school. She really "unloaded" all of her griefs. It wasn't long before we had talked it all out and she was smiling again. This is the kind of relationship Jesus wants to have with us. The kind that says, "Go ahead dump all your unhappiness on me. Tell me your disappointments. I can take it. More than that, I want it. I want your sorrow." Jesus wants your sorrow. He wants you to talk to Him. Like you would to a FRIEND. He told His disciples that they were no longer servants but His friends. Stop acting like the uncared for servant. Think about your friendship with Jesus, the greatest Friend of all times. Go ahead and dump your griefs on Him today…. He wants you to.
